ASSOCIATION OF HAWAII ARCHIVISTS

Board Meeting, July 14, 2010

Present: De Soto Brown, Ellen Chapman, Stuart Ching, Maja Clark, Stu Dawrs, Rae Shiraki, Dainan Skeem, Annie Thomas

Maja called the meeting to order at 4:20.

Minutes of the June meeting were accepted as corrected.

Rae reported that we have $7413.47 in the account. She will check to be sure we comply with new tax laws. She will submit the annual registration form with the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.

PROFESSIONAL EVENTS

  • Marine Corps Base Hawaii; 13 people are signed up. We discussed logistics for the visit to the MCBH archives. Maja will take photos of the event for our blog and will buy soft drinks and ice for the picnic afterward.
  • Harrison Inefuku will arrive on Oct. 10 and depart on Nov. 1. Stud Dawrs and Maja will arrange Inefuku’s presentation in Hamilton Library, UH Manoa.
  • Eleanor Kleiber, librarian and archivist of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, will speak at Hamilton Library on July 21. We discussed co-sponsoring this event, but decided not to since time was so short.

ANNUAL MEETING

  • Date: Presidents Day weekend – one or more days between Feb. 19-21, 2011.
  • Annie described accommodations at the Volcano Guest House
  • We discussed program ideas and possible neighbor island speakers whose expenses we may subsidize.

THE BLOG

  • Stu Dawrs showed us his draft of the blog site and we discussed possible content. We decided to have a collection-of-the month feature: Maja, DeSoto and Annie will be first to contribute. For the blog, Rae will draft an invitation to join AHA and a reminder to renew membership.
  • The blog will go live on July 30 and Stu will furnish us with logon information.
  • We debated the pros and cons of having a blog and/or website and/or printed newsletter

NEXT MEETING
